An Inconvenient Truth

Posted on 02 January 2019

I believe the best thing to do when you’re backed into a corner, is to close your eyes, take a deep breath, and find a way out of it. So let’s get right down to the inconvenient truth staring us in the face.

If age is just a number, isn’t New Year’s just a date?

This is more than a play on words, this is a reflection of ourselves, our goals, and how we view our path to realizing our goals. Because the reality is resolutions come and go, but resolve never dies.

Resolve is what anchors us when we get caught up in the seemingly tireless pendulum that swings us back and forth between protecting everything we’ve come to know and love, and pushing us to pursue everything we can dream up. When the world gives us a line in the sand to reset our goals, resolve gives us the confidence to know that for the next 365 our plan of attack may need to differ, by degree, but not by type. Resolve lets us know that when you stay rooted to who you are, what drives, you and how you bring that drive to life, it doesn’t matter what you use to count the days.

In the year ahead don’t waste time getting too caught up in keeping count, just resolve to make it count, one day at a time. Happy New Year, to you, your resolutions, and the resolve that anchors your ambitions. The convenient truth is this: you’re exactly where you need to be to make the most of what got you here, and enjoy all that’s yet to come.
