Doing well or doing good?

Posted on 10 April 2017

This past weekend we had the opportunity to attend the Alleviating Poverty Through Entrepreneurship Summit at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. This annual event brings together leaders in social enterprise development from around the world to network, share ideas, and offer support.

Throughout the day we heard about efforts in India to develop a network of individual innovators across the country called the Honey Bee Network. We learned about the progress of an organization called Issue Voter that aims to bring connecting with your Congressmen into the twenty first century. And we even heard from Aspire Food Group and their journey to bring sustainable insect based protein sources to the main stream. While hearing these stories, and meeting these people I couldn’t shake the one question that has been on my mind for awhile, and is can you do well, while doing good?

Often times it seems that service to our communities comes at the expense of our personal and professional endeavors. We have all been guilty of trying to “make time” for volunteering, mentoring others, or just in general making a difference, but shouldn't we really be trying to “make it a priority?”

At YXU we believe that you can do well while doing good, and that business can play an integral role of creating value not just at the bottom line, but in our communities and the leaders that serve them. We are committed to proving this through our continued to growth, but we would love to hear about ways that you make it a priority to integrate “doing well, while doing good” in your everyday lives.
