It’s a silly story, and one that I tell too often (and poorly if you ask my friends), but I still can’t believe that less than a year ago YXU was born out of an impromptu sit down “meeting” in the middle of Lakeshore Boulevard in downtown Cleveland waiting for the World Champions Cleveland Cavalier’s victory parade. The rest, as they say, is history.
From that sit down we embarked on a journey to create a company that would build leaders and strengthen communities. We decided we would measure our success by aiming to invest $1,000 dollars back into the community within our first year. Last week we hit our halfway mark on that journey, and at the conclusion of our second quarter Cause of the Quarter Program we have contributed over $1,800 to organizations building communities all over the country. This is not an invitation to rest on our accomplishments, but rather an opportunity to raise the bar for ourselves. We could not be happier with the growth and diversity of the YXU community, but as I mentioned earlier, it’s only halftime, and our work is not done.
We have learned a lot in the past six months, some lessons easier than others, but a lot nonetheless. We have learned that even the best intentions need to be backed by the best execution. We have learned you don’t always have to have the answer, but you have to be willing to ask the right question. We have learned that baby steps are better than no steps. And most importantly we have learned that we can do this, together.
