Leader of the Month: Over Easy

Posted on 01 November 2017

YXU Community and All Who May Read,

Hello! We are Over Easy, a music duo based out of Chicago and New York City. My name is James Sullivan and the other half of Over Easy is made up of Max Press. We couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity given to us by the team at YXU to give back and do our part in the community.

Some time ago, Max and I started to create our own music, and it was much more nerve-wracking than

I could’ve ever thought. What we never realized before we started doing this, when you put yourself out there, you run the risk for people to criticize you, people being judgmental, negative energy, etc. HOWEVER, nothing is more satisfying to us, than when someone listens to a song of ours and it makes them happy or they enjoy it. To anyone that’s ever listened and listens in the future, even if it’s just one person, THANK YOU! We love to make music, but what makes it all worth it to us, is making others happy.

With that being said, I would love to introduce the foundation we will be supporting for the Month of November, and that is Team Joseph.

Team Joseph is a non-profit organization whose mission is to aggressively fund cutting edge research to find a treatment or cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. For those who don’t know, Duchenne muscular dystrophy is the most common degenerative genetic muscle disease in boys. As most boys are growing stronger and gaining independence, boys with Duchenne are losing muscle function and mobility Imagine struggling to climb the steps in your home, never experiencing the joy of running, progressively losing independence and having doctor appointments and hospital visits as a regular part of your routine. This is something that young boys experience, and we want to help!

This especially hits home to us because I (James) grew up in Walled Lake, Michigan, the same hometown as Joseph, who was the inspiration of this effort. Joseph’s father, Jeff Penrod, was a coach of mine, role model, friend, teacher, and a large part in what made my teen years so special. The opportunity to finally give back and help Team Joseph is an honor, and we couldn’t be more excited. For the month of November, 100% of the proceeds of the Over Easy apparel line will be donated to Team Joseph. In addition, 10% of all other YXU apparel sales will also be donated.
