Leader of the Month: Over Easy
Posted on 13 November 2017
This is James here for our third installment of the month, here to talk to you about goal setting!
My mother used to always yell at me, “Take initiative!” Or, “Get out of your comfort zone!” The best part about that is that I had no clue what she was talking about. Absolutely no idea what that meant for me. I went through middle school, high school, and even the first 3.5 years of college not knowing how that applied to me. It wasn’t until about a year ago that goal-setting actually had a true meaning. One single seminar that was posted on Youtube back in 2012 that I had come across changed everything for Over Easy, called “The ill-Methodology Workshop.”
In that 45 minute session, the speaker had talked about a topic where he explained the single biggest predictor for success in this world, regardless of whether it was in music, business, or anything else. He said that it had nothing to do with personality traits, educational background, cultural background, or your socioeconomic status. Nope - he said that the single biggest predictor of success is hand-written goal-setting. As soon as I heard this, all those times that my mom told me to take initiative popped right back into my head.
At that moment, I spent an entire night goal-setting. I wrote down exactly what I wanted to see happen for us over the next year and started to develop a plan. Each month, we figure out what needs to be accomplished in order to reach that ultimate goal, and each week we develop tasks to help us reach that monthly goal. This has given us tangible goals that we can reach every day and every week so that inch-by-inch, we can continue to grow.
A goal we recently set as a team was in 18 months, we want to reach 2 million streams of our music. The reason for that number? From doing research, we found that 2 million streams means we can be self-sufficient on our own through our music. Through the goal-setting habits we’ve created, we hope that we can achieve this!
Thank you to the YXU team for allowing us a platform to tell our story and to help give back to the community that does so much for us!
Thank you for supporting Team Joseph thus far, and let’s continue to make a difference.
