Leave Your Mark Tour: Day 1
Posted on 01 September 2017
The founders of YXU have embarked on a 10 day road trip titled the “Leave Your Mark” tour to celebrate the one year anniversary of launching YXU. They will be traveling to Washington D.C, New York City, and Boston to volunteer in the community and network with community leaders to share YXU’s mission with a new audience.
Our day got started with an early (or late) arrival to our D.C hosts (Matt’s Aunt Carol) at 2 am. We found ourselves out the door a short four hours later to jump in an Uber and get to our first volunteering event at Thrive D.C. Three train rides and a brisk jog later we arrived in time to serve a Labor Day Feast to nearly 200 members of the community. Afterwards we had the opportunity to sit down with the Executive Director, Alicia Horton, to network and learn more about the work the organization does in the community. As a “recovering attorney” we were captivated by her emphasis on following your passion in order to make meaningful and impactful contribution to your community.
After a quick, and needed, stop at Chick-Fil-A for brunch we traveled across town the D.C Central Kitchen where we again rolled up our sleeves, this time preparing food that would be used to serve more than 2,000 people across D.C. From chopping vegetables, to baking pumpkin spice bread, we left exhausted from the industrial kitchen which consolidates excess food from offices and hospitals across D.C to feed those in need.
I am constantly amazed by and grateful for the support we have received on our journey to grow YXU. Within the first 24 hours of this road trip we have heard from countless friends and family who are providing well wishes and support. It is this support that makes chasing this vision to rewarding.
Day one in the books! As I look back at the day, I realize how special passion truly is! We were able to meet and interact with so many amazing people who were passionate about making a difference in other people’s lives and it was infectious. Keep following your passion and inspire others! Thank you for your continuous support, it has been an amazing first year!! Leave Your Mark
Matt and Tres should really sleep more. But in all seriousness it is very rewarding to be able to make a tangible impact in other people’s lives. Today alone we either fed or support the feeding of more than 2,200 people. That is amazing.
