Leave Your Mark Tour: Day 4
Posted on 06 September 2017
The founders of YXU have embarked on a 10 day road trip titled the “Leave Your Mark” tour to celebrate the one year anniversary of launching YXU. They will be traveling to Washington D.C, New York City, and Boston to volunteer in the community and network with community leaders to share YXU’s mission with a new audience.
The YXU team celebrated Labor Day by getting out and interacting with the people of New York. From our hotel across from Bryant Park we set out to see all the sites that Manhattan had to offer. From the United Nations to Trump Tower, we put in over 12 miles pounding the pavements of the concrete jungle. The majority of our afternoon was spent in Central Park where we canvased the crowd meeting people from around the world and asking them how they wanted to leave their mark on the world. It was a fascinating experience to get perspectives from around the world and engage and connect with complete strangers (if you haven't already done so check out @yxulife on Instagram to see some of the responses we got).
We closed out the night by shooting a quick video in Times Square to summarize why we started YXU, what we achieved in year 1, and what we are aiming for in year 2. The video is available on the YXU Facebook account, and the information is summarized below.
Why did we start YXU?
YXU is built from a deep seeded desire to engage with people to help make a difference in the community. We believe in engaging with individuals in order to enable and inspire them to pursue their passions and turn that passion into tangible change in their community.
What did YXU achieve in year one?
YXU opened for business on September 1st, 2016 with the humble goal to donate $1,000 is our first year. Donations would be funded by the sale of apparel on www.yxulife.com with 10% of our profits going to various charities. We surpassed our goal and donated more than $2700 thanks to the support of the YXU community including you all reading this, our community partners, and Leader of the Month Participants.
What are YXU's goals in the next 12 months?
This year YXU will be driven off of three simple questions: 1) What problems in your community are important to you? 2) How can those problems be solved? 3) Why can't you be the one to solve them?
We will be attacking these questions in two ways. First off our business will focus on hunger. We will network with a variety of players in this space to better unstad the challenges and causes of hunger as well as some of the solutions to combat those challenges. We have committed to donating 5,000 meals through the Cleveland Food Bank.
Nothing gets me going like exploring a new city and meeting new people. Although awkward at first, it was such a rewarding experience to be able to share YXU with the people of New York and welcome them to the YXU community. This experience is a perfect reminder to stay curious, seek new experiences, and step outside your comfort zone.
Got to expand the YXU Community today! It took more than a few awkward moments but we were able to interact with many passionate people who wanted to leave their mark in this world. I have been continually amazed by the people we have met throughout this journey!
I spent most of the day with the camera following the guys around trying to document the process of interacting with the people of New York.
