Leave Your Mark Tour: Day 6
Posted on 11 September 2017
The founders of YXU have embarked on a 8 day road trip titled the “Leave Your Mark” tour to celebrate the one year anniversary of launching YXU. They will be traveling to Washington D.C, New York City, and Boston to volunteer in the community and network with community leaders to share YXU’s mission with a new audience.
Despite our new surroundings, one thing remained the same: an early wake up call. From our Cambridge accommodations we wandered down to the train to head over to South Boston to volunteer at the Greater Boston Food Bank. We spent the morning under the direction of a 20 year veteran of the Food Bank, Kelly. What could have been a mundane morning labeling bacon bits and sorting wet and dry foods, was instead a vibrant experience full of music, stories and hearty laughs. Kelly shared with us not only the impact that the Food Bank has on the community, but also what it is like living as a New York Yankees fan in red Sox territory.
After volunteering we headed back home to Cambridge and explored Harvard's campus. We were fortunate to be able to meet up with a high school friend, Ben Nudelman. It was such a rewarding experience to be able to connect with a familiar face to share our experiences growing YXU and continue to expand our community.
It was so cool to be able to connect with and old classmate up in Boston. The support we have received from countless friends and family on our journey is what makes this experience so much fun.
Kelly showed us what it means to bring the JUICE today at the Food Bank! It was another reminder of how much your attitude matters no matter what work you are involved in.
After a couple of days on New York's dirty subways, Boston's T train system was a refreshing change of pace.
